A noisy boiler can be caused by a range of different things and it isn’t always a sign that you need to splash out on a pricey repair! Finding the cause of the noise is a great way to find out what needs doing to resolve it. Different noises are caused by different things, so keep reading to find out more.
If your boiler is whistling, it may sound like a kettle boiling. Because of this, it is more commonly referred to as ‘kettling’. Kettling is caused by a build up of limescale or sludge inside your system, stopping the water from circulating efficiently. It can be easily sorted out by a powerflush, which our gas engineers carry out across Heckmondwike.
Tapping or banging
These sounds may also be caused by build up, in which case a powerflush is also needed. If the tapping is constant, it could be due to a component coming loose. This will need to be tightened safely by a gas engineer.
Gurgling is caused by trapped air in your system, that can be solved by bleeding your radiators. This will also help your radiators to heat up quicker and will eliminate any cold spots, so your home will be warmer as well as quieter! You can bleed your radiators for yourself, or our team can do it for you.
It isn’t uncommon for your boiler to hum and it may just be caused by your boiler working normally. However, if the humming is more than just background noise, it may be caused by a fault with your heating element. This will need to be fixed by a gas engineer.
Vibrating may be caused by a loose bracket or a component that needs closing. You can fix these issues yourself with a screwdriver. It could also be caused by your actual boiler unit shaking, which will need to be secured by a gas engineer.
